Well, I knew they’d do it, and Nintendo finally have. Remember that 3DS thing that we know and love? Well, Nintendo are making a 2DS. Exactly the same as the 3DS, only that it doesn’t display 3DS images and is laid flat at all times. Because of this, it’s cheaper. And it’s a brilliant idea.
Okay, so it’s not aimed at people like me. I never use the 3D on my 3DS and if, at the time of buying, there was a 3DS exactly the same as mine, only cheaper and without the 3D effects, I’d have gone for that one. The thing that ruins this for me is how fugly it looks. Seriously, it looks so gimped!
It’s such a strange choice to have it so it can’t be closed. Having the screens on a hinge means that they can’t get damaged and they can fit in your pocket. What they should have done was give it the same power as the 3DS, but the design of the DS Lite. They could even have taken out the camera’s. I never use my 3DS camera.
The genius thing about the 2DS is the release date: same day as Pokemon X and Y. Kids are going to love it, and with the right adverts, Nintendo could nail it.
That’s not the only strange choice Nintendo have made today either. They announced a price drop for the Wii U, but they aren’t dropping the price till the end of September. Why would anyone with any common sense go out and buy a Wii U between now and the end of September when a you can yourself money by waiting for the price drop!
The final bit of news that peaked my interest was the announcement of the limited edition Wind Waker bundle. You get a copy of the game and a Ganondorf figure. It’s a beautiful thing that may or may not be mine on the 4th October. My most excited game of the year is the Wind Waker remake (that’s pretty poor, isn’t it?)
Nintendo are full of strange ideas. It’s why I love them as a company. Rarely do they just play it safe. Creating a 2DS for kids who just want to play Pokemon X and Y is a great idea. Creating a limited edition version of the Wind Waker will make diehard Zelda fans instantly want it. Especially those who weren’t down on the idea previously. I’m positive that Nintendo know what they’re doing.
