Let’s face the facts, it’s been a rubbish year for gaming. Last year we had Skyward Sword for the Wii, and the Ocarina remake for the 3DS. As far as I’m concerned, nothing released this year even came close to the awesomeness of those titles.
What have I really played that’s new? Kid icarus - It was far too painful and I hated the ground sections. New Super Mario Bros. U/ 2 – same old Mario. Pokemon White 2, again same problem. Even this years Layton felt a little bit off. I could have said Assassin’s Creed 3, yeah. Maybe. I actually really liked that game. I even thought about DrawSomething. That game was so great for a month. Still, none of those were game changes. And then I remembered The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead game, developed by Telltale was easily my favourite game of the year. It was a game like I’d never played before, I got to shape the story. I had the power to decide who lived and who died, and suffer the consequences either way. But it was more than that. The story did things to me. Lee and Clem’s relationship was beautiful, and I know I’m not the only person out there thinking the same.
A lot of games that came out this year, I never got the chance to play. I’d love to see what Journey, Soundshapes or Unfinished Swan are all about. Even games like Playstation Allstars, Persona 4 and Uncharted are making me wish I had a Vita and PS3, rather than just Nintendo consoles. I’m looking forward to seeing what games 2013 has in store for me.
