Both my sister and I agree that going to see Taylor Swift live was one of the bigger disappointments of 2011. Not just because I was expecting to go with my friend, but the concert lacked magic, and more to the point: songs. Sure, Taylor went out on the stage and sung 13 tracks (a small amount next to Glee’s 25+), but when she walked off the stage, I turned to my little sis and said ‘Was that it?’
Enter the ‘Speak Now World Tour Live DVD’ – a 2 hour video of the show. I preordered it from Amazon a couple of months back, purely because it’s Taylor Swift, and it turned up in the post today along with some new jeans and my Dad’s birthday present. I’ve just sat and watched it, and now I’m even more disappointed about my experience with Taylor Swift live.
Song wise, the tour from the DVD is perfect. A mix of older Taylor Swift songs, like Our Song for example – I adore that tune and would have loved to see it live, and a songs like Mean and Last Kiss from her new album that she didn’t sing when I saw her, pretty much criminal seen as Mean is one of the greatest Swift songs to date. They also got some cover songs and mash-ups, something that was missing from the Manchester showing. A cover of Train’s Drops of Jupiter & a Hey Soul Sister/I’m Your/Fearless mash up. Just too awesome.
Because the concert is in the past I’m willing to forgive Taylor this time, but man it could have been a such better night.
